Timing Cover Oil Seal

  1. Refer to the Timing Cover Removal and Installation procedures in this information and remove the timing cover.
  2.  
  3. Using a small prybar, pry the oil seal from the timing cover.
  4.  
  5. Using tool J-23042, drive the new oil seal into the timing cover.
  6.  

When installing the new oil seal, be sure to support the rear side of the timing cover.

  1. Install the timing cover to the engine.
  2.

  1. Refer to the Timing Cover Removal and Installation procedures in this information and remove the balancer from the crankshaft.
  2.  
  3. Using a small prybar, pry the oil seal from the timing cover.
  4.  
  5. Place the new seal (open end toward the engine) on the timing cover and drive it into the cover using tool J-23042.
  6.  
  7. To complete the installation, reverse the removal procedures. Torque the balancer bolt to 65-75 ft. lbs. on V8 engines and 60 ft. lbs. on inline six-cylinder engines.
