REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Because of various design and equipment changes, all procedures for removing and installing the evaporator core may or may not pertain to your particular vehicle.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Discharge the air conditioning system following the correct procedure in .
  2.  
  3. Remove the module screen.
  4.  
  5. Remove the right-hand windshield wiper arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the diagnostic connection, Hi blower relay and the thermostatic switch mounting.
  8.  


CAUTION
Please refer to before discharging the compressor or disconnecting air conditioning lines. Damage to the air conditioning system or personal injury could result. Consult your local laws concerning refrigerant discharge and recycling. In many areas it may be illegal for anyone but a certified technician to service the A/C system. Always use an approved recovery station when discharging the air conditioning.

  1. Disconnect and tag the electrical connectors at the module top.
  2.  
  3. Remove the accumulator bracket screws.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air conditioning wiring harness retainer from the blower case shroud.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper case half to lower case half cowl attaching screws. Two of these screws are inside the air intake at the case separation point.
  8.  
  9. Remove the thermostatic switch by removing the electrical connector, the switch attaching screws and the small tube running from the switch to the evaporator inlet pipe. To remove the small pipe, remove the insulation at the evaporator inlet pipe and loosen the two clamps. When you reinstall this line make sure the line is replaced in its original position.

  11. Remove the evaporator inlet pipe support bracket.
  12.  
  13. Remove the heater-evaporator core case cover, making sure you do not damage the sealer.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect and plug the refrigerant lines at the accumulator and the liquid line.
  16.  
  17. Remove the evaporator core, from its mounting.
  18.  
  19. Before installation, replace the O-rings on all of the disconnected lines. Lubricate them lightly with a light weight oil.
  20.  
  21. Install the evaporator core and connect the lines. Use care when connecting the lines to avoid damage to the O-rings.

  23. Connect the refrigerant line at the accumulator and attach the accumulator bracket.
  24.  
  25. Install the case assembly. Connect the electrical connections at the module top.
  26.  
  27. Reinstall the high blower relay and thermostatic switch.
  28.  
  29. Install the right side windshield wiper arm and screen.
  30.  
  31. Connect the negative battery cable.
  32.  
  33. Evacuate and recharge the air conditioning system following the correct procedure in .
