REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Front Cable
  1. Raise the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the adjusting nut at the equalizer.
  4.  
  5. Remove the spring retainer clip from the bracket.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle. Disconnect the cable from its mounting on the parking brake assembly. Remove the cable from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Position the cable assembly to its mounting. Install the spring clips and the retainer.
  2.  
  3. Install the adjusting nut at the equalizer. Adjust the parking brake.
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6.  

Rear Cable
  1. Raise the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the adjusting nut at the equalizer. Disengage the rear cable at the connector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel assembly and brake drum. Bend the retainer fingers.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear brakes. Disengage the cable at the brake shoe operating lever. Remove the cable from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Position the cable assembly to its mounting. Install the rear brake assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the brake drum. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the cable at the adjusting nut and equalizer assembly. Adjust the parking brake cable.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8.

  1. Raise the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
  2.  
  3. Push down on the parking brake pedal so that it is two notches from the fully released position.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the forward equalizer check nut and adjust the rear nut as necessary to obtain a light drag when the rear wheel is turned forward.
  6.  
  7. Tighten both check nuts.
  8.  
  9. Fully release the parking brake lever and check to see that there is no drag present when the rear wheel is turned forward.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. If the parking brake has to be forcibly released, clean and lubricate the cables and equalizer, and also the parking brake assembly, then check the cables for straightness and kinks.
