  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. If accessible from the engine compartment, disconnect the starter wiring and unfasten the top mounting bolt.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. If not already done, disconnect all wires at the solenoid terminals. Note the color coding of the wires for reinstallation.
  8.  
  9. Remove the starter front bracket and the two mount bolts. On engines with a solenoid heat shield, remove the front bracket upper bolt and detach the bracket from the starter motor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the front bracket bolt or nut. Rotate the bracket clear. Lower the starter, front end first. Remove the starter.
  12.  
  13. Reverse this procedure for installation. Torque the mount bolts to 25-35 ft lbs.
