  1. Perform steps one, two, and three of the lower ball joint "Removal and Installation" procedure.
  2.  
  3. Mark the lower control arm pivot bolt and adjusting cam to ensure proper alignment during installation.
  4.  
  5. Remove the nut which secures the pivot bolt and cam assembly and withdraw the pivot bolt and cam. Remove the lower control arm.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the lower control arm for cracks, bends, or other signs of fatigue. Replace if necessary.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Begin installation by positioning the lower control arm in its support bracket. Align the pivot bolt assembly and install. Fit the pivot nut and torque to 90-120 ft. lbs. for 1962-64 models, or to 60-75 ft. lbs. for 1965-67 models.
  2.  
  3. Perform steps 7-10 of the corresponding lower ball joint "Removal and Installation" procedure.

1968-74 Chevy II and Nova

  1. Remove the front coil spring as described previously.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the lower ball joint stud from the steering knuckle as described in steps 1-4 of the corresponding lower ball joint "Removal and installation" procedure.
  4.  
  5. Remove the pivot bolts and nuts which secure the lower control arm to the frame and withdraw the control arm.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the lower control arm for cracks, bends, or other signs of fatigue. Replace if necessary.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Begin installation by positioning the lower control arm in the frame and fitting the pivot bolts and nuts. Torque the bolts to 80 ft. lbs.
  2.  
  3. Insert the lower ball joint stud into the steering knuckle. Fit the stud nut and torque to 85 ft. lbs. Install new cotter pins and the brake caliper.
  4.  
  5. Install the front coil spring as described previously.
  6.  
  7. Lower the car. Check and adjust the front-end alignment as required.
  8.  

1975-79 Nova
  1. Remove the coil spring as previously described.
  2.  
  3. Remove the ball joint from the steering knuckle as previously described.
  4.  
  5. Remove the pivot bolts and nuts which secure the lower control arm to the frame and remove the control arm.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Insert the lower control arm ball joint stud into the steering knuckle boss. Install the ball stud nut, torque the nut to 83 ft. lbs., and insert a new cotter pin.
  2.  

Never back off the nut to align the cotter pin. Always tighten the nut to the next slot which lines up with the hole in the stud.

  1. Install the coil spring as previously described.
  2.  
  3. Torque the pivot nuts to 100 ft. lbs.
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle. Check and adjust the front end alignment as necessary.
