  1. Raise the rear of the car and support the rear axle housing with a jack.
  2.  
  3. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt from the shock absorber eye.
  4.  
  5. Withdraw the shock absorber upper mounting bracket bolts and remove the shock absorber.
  6.  
  7. Remove the nut, washer, bushing, and upper mounting bracket from the shock absorber.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Assemble the nut, washer, rubber brushings, and upper mounting bracket to the shock absorber and torque the nut 9-12 ft. lbs.
  2.  
  3. Position the shock absorber with its upper bracket to the floor pan and torque the bracket bolts to 9-12 ft. lbs. for 1962-64 models or 5-10 ft. lbs. for 1965-67 models.
  4.  
  5. Position the shock absorber eye in the lower bracket, fit the bolt with the nut toward the rear, and torque it to 45-55 ft. lbs.
  6.  
  7. Lower the car and check the shock absorber action.
  8.

  1. Raise the rear of the car and support the rear axle housing with a jack.
  2.  
  3. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt from the shock absorber eye.
  4.  
  5. Withdraw the shock absorber upper mounting bracket bolts and remove the shock absorber.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Position the shock absorber at its upper mounting bracket and loosely install the upper mounting bolts.
  2.  
  3. Position the shock absorber eye in the lower bracket, fit the bolt with the nut toward the rear, and torque to 45 ft. lbs. or 60 ft. lbs. on models equipped with optional special performance suspension.
  4.  
  5. Torque the upper mounting bolts to 15 ft. lbs.
  6.  
  7. Lower the car and check the shock absorber action.
  8.
