On models with All Wheel Dive (AWD), the rear wheels are driven by shafts from the Drive Line Module. This module serves as the rear drive axle.
As well as containing the rear differential, this module contains a set of overrunning clutches in their own case. This clutch assembly serves to control differences in drive line speed and traction.
Drive Line Module
Chrysler recommends the use of a Multi-purpose Gear Oil SAE 80W-90, meeting API specification GL-5. The module is full when the fluid level is at the bottom of the filler hole opening.Overrunning Clutch
Chrysler recommends the use of Mopar® ATF+2 type 7176 or equivalent. The oil level should be full to the bottom of the oil filler hole opening.
See Figures 1 and 2
The Drive Line Module/Overrunning Clutch fluid level can only be checked and topped off, if necessary, but it cannot be drained and refilled. To check, remove the fill plug and place your finger in the hole. The fluid level should be to the bottom of the fill plug hole.
DRAIN & REFILL
The Drive Line Module cannot be serviced. If fluid leakage is detected, the unit must be disassembled and the seals replaced.
