  1. Elevate and safely support the vehicle.
  2.
  3. Remove the wheel and tire.
  4.
  5. Remove the screw from the sensor retaining clip.
  6.
  7. Carefully remove the sensor wiring grommet from the fender shield.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the sensor wiring from the ABS harness.
  10.
  11. Remove the screws holding the sensor wiring tube to the fender well.
  12.
  13. Remove the retainer grommets from the bracket on the strut.
  14.
  15. Remove the fastener holding the sensor head.
  16.
  17. Carefully remove the sensor head from the steering knuckle. Do not use pliers on the sensor head; if it is seized in place, use a hammer and small punch to tap the edge of the sensor ear. The tapping and side-to-side motion will free the unit.
  18.

To install:
  1. Before installation, coat the sensor with high temperature multi-purpose grease.
  2.
  3. Connect the speed sensor to the ABS harness.
  4.
  5. Push the sensor assembly grommet into the hole in the fender shield. Install the retainer clip and screw.
  6.
  7. Install the sensor grommets into the brackets on the fender shield and strut.
  8.
  9. Install the retainer clip at the strut.
  10.
  11. On Van/wagons, install the sensor wiring tube, then tighten the retaining bolts to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  12.
  13. Install the sensor to the knuckle.
  14.
  15. Install the retaining screw, then tighten it to 60 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  16.

Proper installation of the sensor and its wiring is critical to system function. Make certain that wiring is installed in all retainers and clips. Wiring must be protected from moving parts and not be stretched during suspension movements.

  1. Install the tire and wheel. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
  2.

  1. Elevate and safely support the vehicle.
  2.
  3. Remove the wheel and tire.
  4.
  5. Remove the sensor assembly grommet from the underbody and pull the harness through the hole in the body.
  6.
  7. Disconnect the sensor wiring from the ABS harness.
  8.
  9. Remove the 4 clips holding the sensor wiring along the underside.
  10.
  11. Remove the attaching bracket holding the wiring to the frame rail.
  12.
  13. On FWD Van/wagons, unfasten the nuts from the rear axle U-bolts.
  14.
  15. Remove the sensor mounting bracket.
  16.
  17. Remove the fastener holding the sensor head.
  18.
  19. Carefully remove the sensor head from the adapter assembly. Do not use pliers on the sensor head; if it is seized in place, use a hammer and small punch to tap the edge of the sensor ear. The tapping and side-to-side motion will free the unit.
  20.

To install:
  1. Position the sensor bracket under the brake tube and start the outer attaching bolt by hand.
  2.
  3. Align the brake tube clip and the bracket; install the retaining bolt.
  4.
  5. Tighten both retaining bolts to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  6.
  7. Before installation coat the sensor with high temperature, multi-purpose grease.
  8.
  9. Install the sensor head into the rear axle and fasten the bolt. Tighten the bolt to 60 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  10.
  11. Carefully bend the rubber hose section of the sensor assembly toward the rear of the vehicle. Position the anti-rotation tab correctly and install the frame rail bracket. Tighten the bolt to 50 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  12.
  13. Connect the sensor wiring to the rear harness. Push the sensor assembly wiring grommet back into the hole.
  14.
  15. Install the rear sensor grommet retaining bracket, then tighten the 2 retaining bolts to 50 inch lbs. (5 Nm). Make certain the bracket does not pinch the sensor wiring.
  16.
  17. Route the sensor wiring along the vehicle frame rail and install the 4 retaining clips.
  18.
  19. install the rear wheel and tire; lower the vehicle to the ground.
