Fig. Fig. 4: Crankshaft position sensor location-1993-95 3.3L and 3.8L engines

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Unplug the sensor lead at the harness connector.
  4.
  5. Remove the sensor retainer bolt.
  6.
  7. Pull the sensor straight up and out of the transaxle housing.
  8.
  9. If the removed sensor is being reinstalled, clean off the old spacer completely and attach a new spacer to the sensor. If a new spacer is not used, the sensor will not function properly. New sensors are equipped with a new spacer.
  10.

To install:
  1. Install the sensor in the transaxle housing and push the sensor down until contact is made with the drive plate.
  2.
  3. Hold in this position and install the retaining bolt. Torque to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  4.
  5. Connect the sensor lead wire.
  6.

Camshaft Position Sensor

See Figure 5

Fig. Fig. 5: Camshaft sensor location-3.3L and 3.8L engines

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Unplug the sensor lead at the harness connector.
  4.
  5. Loosen the sensor retaining bolt enough to allow the slot to slide past the bolt.
  6.
  7. Pull the sensor (not by the wire) straight up and out of the chain case cover. Resistance may be high due to the presence of the rubber O-ring.
  8.
  9. If the removed sensor is being reinstalled, clean off the old spacer completely and attach a new spacer to the sensor. If a new spacer is not used, the sensor will not function properly. New sensors are equipped with a new spacer.
  10.

To install:
  1. Inspect the O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.
  2.
  3. Lubricate the O-ring lightly with oil. Install the sensor to the chain case cover and push the sensor into its bore in the chain case cover until contact is made with the cam timing gear.
  4.
  5. Hold in this position and tighten the bolt to 125 inch lbs. (14 Nm).
  6.
  7. Engage the connector and route it away from the belt.
  8.
