REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
See Figures 1 and 2
Freeze plugs can be removed with the engine in or out of the vehicle.
Using a blunt tool, such as a drift and hammer, strike the bottom edge of the plug. With the plug rotated, grasp it firmly with pliers and remove it. Do not drive the plug into the block as coolant flow restriction would occur.
When installing the replacement plug, thoroughly clean the plug bore, removing any old sealant. Coat the new plug with Loctite® Stud Mount, or equivalent. Position the plug on the block and drive it into the block so that the sharp edge is at least 0.020 in. (0.5mm) inside the chamfer. Check the plug for leaks after cooling system refilling.
