REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



2.2L and 2.5L Engines

  1. With the engine removed from the vehicle, or the transaxle removed from the engine, remove the flywheel (manual transaxles) or the flexplate (automatic transaxles).
  2.  
  3. Pry out rear crankshaft oil seal from seal retainer. Be careful not to nick of damage crankshaft sealing surface or seal retainer.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Place Tool C-4681, or equivalent, on the crankshaft.
  2.  
  3. Lubricate the outer diameter with Loctite Stud N' Bearing Mount (PN. 4057987) or equivalent.
  4.  
  5. Lightly lubricate the seal lip with engine oil, then tap it into place with a plastic or soft faced hammer.
  6.  
  7. Install the flywheel/flexplate and tighten bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  8.  

2.6L Engines

  1. With the engine removed from the vehicle, or the transaxle removed from the engine, remove the flywheel (manual transaxles) or flexplate (automatic transaxles).
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear crankshaft seal retainer.
  4.  
  5. Remove the separator from the retainer, then remove the seal.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Clean all old gasket material from the retainer and engine block surface.
  2.  
  3. Install a new gasket on the retainer.
  4.  
  5. Lightly lubricate the new seal lip with engine oil and install the separator making sure the oil hole is at the bottom of separator.
  6.  
  7. Install flywheel tighten bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  8.  

3.0L, 3.3L and 3.8L Engines

  1. With the engine removed from the vehicle, or the transaxle removed from the engine, remove the flywheel (manual transaxles) or the flexplate (automatic transaxles).

  3. Pry out the rear crankshaft oil seal from the seal retainer. Be careful not to nick or damage the crankshaft sealing surface or seal retainer.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Lightly lubricate the new seal lip with engine oil and install seal in retainer housing using Tool MD998718, or the equivalent.
  2.  
  3. Install the flywheel/flexplate, then tighten the mounting bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
