The Kelsey-Hayes single pin type caliper (1984-87 models) and the Kelsey-Hayes double pin type caliper (1987-95 models) front disc brakes are of the single position, floating caliper type. The caliper "floats" through a rubber bushing, inserted into the inboard portion of the caliper, via a guide pin that is threaded into the mounting adapter. The mounting adapter for the caliper is fitted with two machined abutments that position and align the caliper. The guide pin and bushing, on the Kelsey-Hayes single pin type caliper, control the movement of the caliper when the brakes are applied, providing a clamping force. The Kelsey-Hayes double pin type caliper, uses two steel guide pins and mounting bushings to control the movement of the caliper upon brake application.
