CAUTION
Before servicing the lower instrument panel, chock the wheels. Servicing the steering column may cause an automatic transaxle to come out of the Park (P) position. Always release the parking brake before the release cable is disconnected. Disconnecting the parking brake cable without releasing the parking brake may cause personal injury.

  1. Block the vehicle wheels and release the parking brake. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column lower left cover.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the PRNDL display at the column.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering column.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower right instrument panel silencer.
  10.  
  11. Remove the forward console if necessary.
  12.  
  13. Remove the instrument panel speaker grilles.
  14.  
  15. Remove the A-pillar intermediate and sill scuff garnish mouldings.
  16.  
  17. Unfasten the hood release mechanism from the side cowl.
  18.  
  19. Unfasten the parking brake handle bracket.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the parking brake light switch, parking brake switch and bulk head wiring connectors.
  22.  
  23. Under the hood disconnect the ABS connector and resistor block. Unseat the grommet at the dash panel and feed the wiring back into the passenger compartment.
  24.  
  25. Remove the 2 nuts securing the instrument panel at the steering column support brace.
  26.  
  27. Loosen the instrument panel roll up bolts.
  28.  
  29. Remove the screws securing the instrument panel at the left cowl side ramp bracket.
  30.  
  31. Remove the 6 screws securing the instrument panel at the fence line.
  32.  
  33. Lift upward on the instrument panel to clear the roll up ramp. Roll the instrument panel back and hang it from the short position of the roll up hook.
  34.  
  35. With the instrument panel hanging in this position, disconnect the left and right side body wiring connections, vacuum lines and cables.
  36.  
  37. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
  38.  
  39. To install, reverse the removal steps.

CAUTION

  1. Disable the air bag system by disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Block the vehicle wheels and release the parking brake.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the instrument panel cluster bezel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower right instrument panel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower left instrument panel silencer.
  12.  
  13. Remove the steering column lower left cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the premium console or module cover.
  16.  
  17. Remove the lower left reinforcement.
  18.  
  19. Remove the floor braces.
  20.  
  21. Remove the steering column.
  22.  
  23. Remove the lower right instrument panel silencer.
  24.  
  25. Remove the premium console or module cover.
  26.  
  27. Remove the A-pillar intermediate and sill scuff garnish mouldings.
  28.  
  29. Unfasten the hood release mechanism from the side cowl.
  30.  
  31. Unfasten the parking brake handle bracket.
  32.  
  33. Disengage the parking brake light switch, parking brake switch and bulk head wiring connectors.
  34.  
  35. Under the hood disengage the ABS connector and resistor block. Unseat the grommet at the dash panel and feed the wiring back into the passenger compartment.

  37. Remove the 2 nuts securing the instrument panel at the steering column support brace.
  38.  
  39. Loosen the instrument panel roll-up bolts.
  40.  
  41. Remove the screws securing the instrument panel at the left cowl side ramp bracket.
  42.  
  43. Remove the 6 screws securing the instrument panel at the fence line.
  44.  
  45. Lift upward on the instrument panel to clear the roll-up ramp. Roll the instrument panel back and hang it from the short position of the roll-up hook.
  46.  
  47. With the instrument panel hanging in this position, disconnect the left and right side body wiring connections, vacuum lines and cables.
  48.  
  49. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
  50.  
  51. To install, reverse the above removal steps.
  52.  
  53. Perform the Air Bag System Check procedures outlined in this section before connecting the negative battery cable.
