Seven manual transaxles, built by Chrysler, are used; a 4-speed, A-460 and six 5-speeds; A-465, A-520, A-523, A-525, A-555 and A-568. All of these transaxles are based on the same design and components, therefore servicing each is almost identical. The transmission and differential are contained together in a single die-cast aluminum case. All of the transmissions are fully synchronized in all gears. ATF+3 automatic transmission/transaxle type fluid (models through 1987) or 5W-30 motor oil (1988 and later models) is used for lubrication. Please refer to General Information & Maintenance for additional lubrication information. The transaxle model, build date and final drive ratio are stamped on a tag that is attached to the top of the transaxle. Always give the tag information when ordering parts for the unit.
