ADJUSTMENT



  1. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Apply and release the parking brake several times.
  4.  
  5. Clean the parking park adjustment bolts with a wire brush and lubricate the threads.
  6.  
  7. Back off the adjusting nut until there is slack in the cable.
  8.  
  9. Check the rear brake adjustment, adjust as necessary.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the parking brake cable adjuster until a slight drag is felt when turning the rear wheel.
  12.  
  13. Loosen the cable until no drag is felt on either rear wheel.
  14.  
  15. Back off adjusting nut two full turns more.
  16.  
  17. Apply and release the parking brake several times to ensure there is no rear wheel drag and lower the vehicle.
  18.  

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Front Cable
  1. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Back off the adjuster nut until the cable can be released from the connectors.
  4.  
  5. Lift the floor mat for access to the floor pan. Force the seal surrounding the cable from the floor.
  6.  
  7. Pull the cable forward and disconnect from the lever clevis.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front cable from support bracket and vehicle.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Feed the new cable through the floor pan hole.
  2.  
  3. Attach the front end of the cable to the parking brake lever clevis and support.
  4.  
  5. Engage the intermediate cable, then adjust it as described earlier.
  6.  

Intermediate Cable
  1. Back off the parking brake adjuster.
  2.  
  3. Disengage the front cable and rear cables from the intermediate cable connector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the intermediate cable.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install the new cable, then adjust the cable as described above.
  2.  

Rear Cables
  1. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Back off the cable adjustment and disconnect the rear cable (that is to be replaced) from the intermediate cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear cable from the mounting clips.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear wheel and the brake shoes from the side requiring replacement.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the cable from the rear brake apply lever. Compress the cable lock with a mini-hose clamp and pull the cable from the backing plate.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the new cable through the brake backing plate and engage the locks.
  2.  
  3. Attach the cable to the apply lever.
  4.  
  5. Install the brake shoes, drum and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Adjust the service brakes and parking brake.
  8.
