Crankcase Vent Filter

All engines are equipped with a crankcase vent filter which is used to filter the outside air before it enters the PCV system. The filter is located in the air cleaner housing on 2.6L and 2.5L, or in the vent module on 2.2L engines. The filter is located inside the filter element box under the filter element on 3.0L engines and the filter element is located in the bottom of the filter element box on the 3.3L and the 3.8L engines. Replacement should be performed every 50,000-60,000 miles.

  1. On models equipped with the 2.2L engine, remove the PCV valve from the vent module and remove the vent module from the engine cover. Wash the module thoroughly in kerosene or safe solvent.
  3. Lubricate or wet the filter with SAE 30 weight oil. Reinstall the module, PCV valve and hose.
  5. On models equipped with the 2.5L or 2.6L engine, remove the vent filter from the air cleaner housing. Replace with a new element. Wet the new element slightly with SAE 30 weight oil before installation.
  7. Models equipped with the 3.0L, 3.3L or 3.8L engine, remove the filter from the filter element box. Replace the filter.
