RELEASE PROCEDURE



1987-92 Models
2.5L, 3.0L AND 3.3L ENGINES

  1. Loosen the gas cap to release tank pressure.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the injector wiring harness from the engine or main harness.
  4.  
  5. Connect a jumper to ground terminal No. 1 of the injector harness to engine ground.
  6.  
  7. Connect a jumper to the positive terminal No. 2 of the injector harness and momentarily touch the positive terminal of the battery for no longer than 5 seconds. This releases the system pressure. Remove the jumper wires.

1993-95 Models
2.5L ENGINES

See Figure 1

  1. Loosen the gas cap to release tank pressure.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the injector wiring harness from the engine or main harness.
  4.  
  5. Connect a jumper to ground terminal No. 1 of the injector harness to engine ground.
  6.  
  7. Connect a jumper to the positive terminal No. 2 of the injector harness and momentarily touch the positive terminal of the battery for no longer than 5 seconds. This releases the system pressure. Remove the jumper wires.

3.0L ENGINES
  1. Loosen the gas cap to release tank pressure.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the fuel rail electrical harness from the engine harness.
  4.  
  5. Connect one end of a jumper wire to the A142 circuit terminal of the fuel rail harness connector.
  6.  
  7. Connect the other end of the jumper wire to a good ground source.
  8.  
  9. Momentarily ground one of the injectors by connecting the other end of the jumper wire to an injector terminal in the harness connector. Repeat the procedure for 2 or 3 injectors.

3.3L AND 3.8L ENGINES

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the gas cap to release tank pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove the protective cap from the fuel pressure test port on the fuel rail.
  6.  
  7. Place the open end of fuel pressure release hose, tool No. C-4799-1, into an approved gasoline container. Connect the other end of hose C-4799-1 to the fuel pressure test port. Fuel pressure will bleed off through the hose into the gasoline container.
