REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Sebring Convertible

See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4

This procedure only applies to vehicles with rear disc brakes.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear disc brake caliper and rotor assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.
  6.

  1. Remove the rear brake shoe hold-down clip.
  2.  
  3. Turn the brake shoe adjuster wheel until the adjuster is at its shortest length.
  4.  
  5. Remove the adjuster from the parking brake shoe assemblies.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower shoe-to-shoe spring.
  8.  
  9. Pull the rear brake shoe assembly away from the anchor. Then, remove the rear brake shoe and upper spring.

  1. Remove the front brake shoe hold-down clip, then remove the front brake shoe assembly.
  2.  

To install:
  1. Install the front brake shoe and hold-down clip.
  2.  
  3. Install the rear brake shoe and the upper brake shoe-to-shoe return spring.
  4.  
  5. Pull the rear brake shoe over the anchor block until it is properly located on the adapter.
  6.  
  7. Install the lower shoe-to-shoe return spring.
  8.  
  9. Install the brake shoe adjuster with the star wheel rearward.
  10.  
  11. Instal the rear brake shoe hold-down clip.
  12.  
  13. Adjust the brake shoes to an outside diameter of 6.75 inch (171mm).
  14.  
  15. Install the rear hub and bearing assembly.
  16.  
  17. Install the rotor and brake caliper assemblies.
  18.  
  19. Install the wheel and tire assembly, then carefully lower the vehicle.
  20.  

Sebring Coupe and Avenger

See Figure 5

This procedure only applies to vehicles with rear disc brakes.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear disc brake caliper and rotor assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper shoe to anchor springs.
  8.  
  9. Remove the adjusting wheel spring.
  10.  
  11. Remove the adjuster from the parking brake shoe assemblies.
  12.  
  13. Remove the strut and strut return spring
  14.  
  15. Remove the brake shoe hold-down cups, springs and pins.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the actuating lever.
  18.  
  19. Remove the parking brake shoes.
  20.

To install:
  1. Place the front parking brake shoe into position and secure with the hold-down pin spring and cup.
  2.  
  3. Place the rear parking brake shoe into position and secure with the hold-down pin spring and cup.
  4.  
  5. Install the strut and strut return spring
  6.  
  7. Install the adjuster mechanism.
  8.  
  9. Install the adjusting wheel spring.
  10.  
  11. Install the front upper shoe to anchor spring, then the rear upper shoe to anchor spring.
  12.  
  13. Adjust the parking brake shoes.
  14.  
  15. Install the rear hub and bearing assembly.
  16.  
  17. Install the rotor and brake caliper assemblies.
  18.  
  19. Install the wheel and tire assembly, then carefully lower the vehicle.
  20.  

Adjustment

Sebring Convertible
  1. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire assemblies.
  2.  

Unlike other rear disc brake models, the parking brake shoe adjustment cannot be performed through a hole in the rotor and hub assembly.

  1. Remove the rear brake caliper and rotor.
  2.  
  3. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.
  4.  
  5. Check the brake shoe outside diameter using a brake drum reset gauge, or equivalent. The outside diameter should measure 6.75 inches (171mm).
  6.  
  7. If out of specification, adjust the shoe diameter by rotating the star wheel adjuster mechanism using a small prying tool.
  8.  
  9. Install the hub and bearing assembly.
  10.  
  11. Install the rotor and brake caliper.
  12.  
  13. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  14.  
  15. Repeat Steps 2-8 for the other rear wheel, then lower the vehicle.
  16.  

Sebring Coupe and Avenger

See Figure 6

  1. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire assemblies.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rubber adjustment hole plug on the hub of the brake rotor.
  4.  
  5. Use a flat bladed screwdriver to rotate the star wheel downward, until the brake rotor cannot rotate.
  6.  
  7. Return the adjuster 5 notches in the upward direction to complete the adjustment.
  8.  
  9. Install the rubber adjustment hole plug.
  10.  
  11. Repeat Steps 2-5 for the other rear wheel.
  12.  
  13. If necessary, adjust the parking brake cable, as outlined earlier in this section.
  14.  
  15. Install the wheel and tire assemblies, then lower the vehicle.
  16.
