REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Cirrus, Stratus, Sebring Convertible and Breeze

See Figures 1 through 6

All vehicles are equipped with permanently lubricated and sealed-for-life rear wheel bearings. There is no periodic lubrication or maintenance recommended for these units.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake drum or rotor.
  6.

  1. Remove the rear hub dust cap.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear hub retaining nut.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear hub and bearing assembly by pulling it straight off the spindle.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install the replacement bearing on the rear spindle.
  2.  
  3. Install the hub with a new retaining nut.
  4.

  1. Tighten the retaining nut to 185 ft. lbs. (250 Nm). Install the dust cap by tapping on it with a suitably sized socket and hammer.
  2.  
  3. Install the brake drum or rotor.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to 95 ft. lbs. (129 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8.  

Sebring Coupe and Avenger

See Figure 7

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the appropriate wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. If equipped with an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), remove the vehicle speed sensor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake drum or rotor from the hub assembly.
  8.  
  9. From the back of the knuckle, remove the four bolts securing the hub to the knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the hub and bearing assembly from the knuckle.
  12.  

The hub assembly is not serviceable and should not be disassembled.

  1. If replacing the hub, use special socket MB991248 and a press, to remove the wheel sensor rotor from the hub.
  2.

To install:
  1. Press the wheel sensor rotor onto the hub.
  2.  
  3. Install the hub to the knuckle and tighten the mounting bolts to 54-65 ft. lbs. (74-88 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the brake drum or rotor on the hub.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with ABS, install the vehicle speed sensor.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to 95 ft. lbs. (129 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.
