Sway (Stabilizer) Bar

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Cirrus, Stratus, Sebring Convertible and Breeze

See Figure 1

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove both rear wheel and tire assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Remove the nuts attaching the sway bar isolator bushings to the sway bar.
  6.  
  7. Remove the isolator bushings from the sway bar link.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 4 bolts attaching the sway bar clamps to the crossmember.
  10.  
  11. Remove the sway bar between the crossmember and the exhaust pipe.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the sway bar into the vehicle.
  2.

The bend in the end of the sway bar must be positioned upward (when viewed from the side) for proper installation.

  1. Install the sway bar to the sway bar links.
  2.  
  3. Install the isolator bushings.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the sway bar link nuts to 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the sway bar hold-down clamps to the crossmember and center the sway bar in the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the hold-down clamp bolts to 250 inch lbs. (28 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the wheel and tire assemblies. Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to 95 ft. lbs. (129 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle and check for proper operation.
  14.  

Sebring Coupe and Avenger

See Figures 2 and 3

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the stabilizer links by removing the self-locking nuts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar mounting brackets and bushings.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Inspect all components for wear or damage, and replace parts as needed.
  10.

  1. Install the stabilizer bar into the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Loosely install the stabilizer bar brackets on the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Align the side locating markings on the stabilizer bar, so that the marking on the bar extends approximately 0.39 inches (10mm) from the outer edge of the mounting bracket, on both sides.
  6.  
  7. With the stabilizer bar properly aligned, tighten the mounting bracket bolts to 28 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the stabilizer links to the damper fork and the stabilizer bar. Tighten the locking nuts to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle and road test to check for noise.
