  1. Measure the distance between the floor and the top of the clutch pedal.
  3. The measurement should be as follows:

    1990 Colt hatchback and sedan - 6.70-6.89 in. (170-175mm)
    1990 Colt Wagon - 6.3-6.5 in. (160-165mm)
    1991-92 Colt hatchback and sedan - 6.61-6.73 in. (168-171mm)
    1993 Colt hatchback and sedan - 6.38-6.50 in. (162-165mm)
    1990-91 Vista - 7.10-7.30 in. (180-185mm)
    1992-93 Vista - 7.68-7.87 in. (195-200mm)

  1. With hydraulic clutches: if the measurement is not correct, loosen the clutch switch locknut and move the switch in or out as necessary to obtain proper height. With cable clutches: the pedal height is not adjustable. If the height is not correct, you have bent parts or a deformed cable.
  3. Check to see if the clutch pedal free-play is within specifications. Measure the distance from the top of the pedal to the distance the pedal moves before resistance is felt. On hydraulic clutches, this measurement is also adjusted at the clutch switch. On cable clutches, this measurement is adjusted at the outer cable adjusting nut, in the engine compartment. The distance should be:

    All models w/hydraulic clutch - 0.04-0.12 in. (1-3mm)
    1991-92 Colt 4-speed - 0.80-1.18 in. (20-30mm)
    1993 Colt w/1.5L engine - 0.67-0.87 in. (17-22mm)
