The clutch assembly consists of a single dry disc and diaphragm spring pressure plate. The throwout bearing is controlled by a shaft mounted horizontally in the clutch housing. All models, except the 1991-92 4-speed Colt hatchback and 1993 Colt w/1.5L engine, are equipped with a hydraulic clutch. This system uses a master cylinder, located in the engine compartment to activate a slave cylinder located in the bell housing, which in turn moves the clutch release lever.
The 1991-92 4-speed Colt and 1993 1.5L Colt are equipped with a cable operated clutch.
