  1. Raise the vehicle and support it safely. Remove the underbody splash shield. On 1993 Colt w/1.5L, remove the bellhousing cover. On 1993 Colt w/1.8L, remove the bellhousing cover and the front exhaust pipe section.

  1. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts and remove the oil pan.
  2.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse order of removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. These engines use no oil pan gasket. Rather, they use RTV silicone gasket material. See figure for proper gasket material application.
  4.  
  5. Torque the oil pan retaining bolts to 4-6 ft. lbs. (6-8 Nm).
  6.  

1992-93 2WD Vista
  1. Raise the vehicle and support it safely. Remove the underbody splash shield.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front exhaust pipe section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts and remove the oil pan.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse order of removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. These engines use no oil pan gasket. Rather, they use RTV silicone gasket material. See figure for proper gasket material application.
  4.  
  5. Torque the oil pan retaining bolts to 4-6 ft. lbs. (6-8 Nm).

1992-93 4WD Vista
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise the vehicle and support safely. Drain the engine oil.
  2.  
  3. Remove the transfer case assembly and left halfshaft as outlined in this section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bellhousing cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pan retaining bolt.
  8.  
  9. Use a gasket separating tool to dislodge the oil pan and remove.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Clean all gasket mating surfaces. Apply RTV gasket sealer to the oil pan and install within 5 minutes.
  2.  
  3. Torque the oil pan bolts to 5 ft. lbs. (7 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the bellhousing cover.
  6.  
  7. Install the transfer case and left halfshaft as outlined in this section.
  8.  
  9. Refill the engine with oil, connect the battery cable, start the engine and check for leaks.
  10.
