CASTER AND CAMBER
Caster and camber are preset at the factory. They require service only if the suspension and steering linkage components are damaged, in which case, repair is accomplished by replacing the damaged part. Caster, however, can be adjusted slightly by moving the strut bar nut.
Toe-in is the difference in the distance between the front wheels, as measured at both the front and the rear of the front tires.
- Raise the front of the car so that its front wheels are just clear of the ground.
- Use a scribing block to hold a piece of chalk at the center of each tire tread while rotating the wheels by hand.
- Measure the distance between the marked lines at both the front and rear.
Take both measurements at equal distances from the ground.
- Toe-in is equal to the difference between the front and rear measurements. This difference should be 2-6mm.
- Toe-in is adjusted by screwing the tie rod turnbuckle in or out as necessary. Left side toe-in may be reduced by turning the tie rod turnbuckle toward the rear of the car. The turnbuckles should always be tightened or loosened the same amount for both tie rods; the difference in length between the two tie rods should not exceed 5mm. Tighten the locknuts to 36-40 ft. lbs.
