Alternator

Print

The alternator is belt-driven by the engine. It is serviced only as a complete assembly. If for any reason the alternator fails, you must replace the unit.

As the energized rotor begins to rotate within the alternator, the spinning magnetic field induced a current into the windings of the stator coil. Once the alternator begins producing a sufficient current, it also provides the current need to energize the rotor.

A Y type stator winding connections deliver the induced AC current to the 3 positive and 3 negative diodes for rectification. Form the diodes, rectified DC current is delivered to the vehicles electrical system through the alternator, battery and ground terminals.
