  1. Label and unplug all electrical connections.
  2.
  3. Remove the coolant hoses from the engine.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the fuel lines using the following procedure:
    1. At the fuel rail, push the quick-connect fitting toward the fuel tube while depressing the built-in disconnect tool with Quick-Connect Fitting Tool 6751 or equivalent.
    2.
    3. To disconnect the fitting from the fuel rail, slightly twist the fitting while maintaining downward pressure on tool 6751.
    4.
    5. Wrap shop towels around the fuel hoses to absorb any fuel spillage and be sure to cover the openings to prevent system contamination.
    6.

  6.
  7. Disconnect the accelerator and cruise control cables from the throttle body.
  8.
  9. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  10.
  11. Place a drain pan under the vehicle and drain the engine oil.
  12.
  13. Remove the air conditioning compressor mounting bolts and position the compressor aside. It should not be necessary to disconnect the refrigerant lines from the compressor.
  14.
  15. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
  16.
  17. Remove the transaxle inspection cover and mark the flexplate for reference during installation.
  18.
  19. Remove the screws holding the torque converter to the flexplate. Attach a C-clamp or some other restraint on the converter housing to prevent the torque converter from falling out during removal of the engine.
  20.
  21. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts and position the pump aside.
  22.
  23. Remove the 2 lower transaxle-to-block screws. Remove the starter motor from the transaxle housing.
  24.
  25. Lower the vehicle and disconnect the the vacuum lines and ground strap. Support the transaxle with a floor jack.
  26.
  27. Attach an engine lifting hoist to the engine and support.
  28.
  29. Remove the upper transaxle mounting bolts.
  30.
  31. Remove the insulator mounting nuts from the engine mounts.
  32.
  33. Lift the engine from the vehicle.
  34.

To install:
  1. Lower the engine into the engine compartment. Align the engine mounts and install all nuts. Once all mount bolts are installed, tighten the fasteners to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm).
  2.
  3. Install the transaxle to the engine block and tighten the bolts to 75 ft. lbs. (102 Nm).
  4.
  5. Remove the engine hoist and the transaxle holding fixture.
  6.
  7. Remove the C-clamp from the converter housing, if installed.
  8.
  9. Align the flexplate to the converter using the marks made during the removal procedure. Install the converter mounting screws and tighten to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm).
  10.
  11. Install the transaxle inspection cover.
  12.
  13. Reconnect the exhaust system to the engine exhaust manifold and install the starter. Tighten the exhaust pipe-to-manifold bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  14.
  15. Install the power steering pump and the air conditioning compressor to their mounting brackets and secure. Tighten the mounting bracket bolts to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm).
  16.
  17. Lower the vehicle and reconnect all vacuum lines.
  18.
  19. Attach all electrical connectors including the ground strap.
  20.
  21. Reconnect the fuel lines to the fuel rail as follows:
    1. Be sure that the black plastic release ring to the quick-connect fitting is in the OUT position. Place Special Tool 6751 under the largest diameter of the quick-connect fitting.
    2.
    3. Pull Tool 6751 toward the fuel rail until the quick-connect fitting clicks into place.
    4.
    5. Place the special tool between the shoulder of the built-in disconnect tool and the top of the quick-connect fitting, then inspect the security of the fitting by applying a slight downward force against the fitting. It should be locked in place.
    6.

  22.
  23. Reconnect the accelerator and cruise control cables to the throttle lever.
  24.
  25. Install the radiator and cooling fan assemblies.
  26.
  27. Refill the crankcase with the proper amount of engine oil and replace the oil filter, if necessary.
  28.
  29. Refill and bleed the cooling system.
  30.
  31. Install the hood onto the vehicle aligning the marks made during removal.
  32.
  33. Check to be sure that all hoses, wiring connectors, cables, vacuum and fluid lines are reconnected.
  34.
  35. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Check all fluid levels.
  36.
  37. Start the engine and allow to idle until normal operating temperature is reached. Inspect all fluid systems for leaks and correct level.
  38.
  39. Road test the vehicle. Adjust the transaxle linkage, as necessary.
