3.3L Engine
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine oil dipstick.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Place a drain pan underneath the the vehicle and drain the engine oil. Remove the oil filter.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the sway bar and move to the rear of the vehicle, if necessary.
  10.  
  11. Remove the transaxle support bracket and inspection cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove the oil pan bolts, then the oil pan.
  14.  
  15. Remove the oil pick-up tube, if necessary. Discard the old oil pick-up tube O-ring.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Thoroughly clean and dry the oil pan, cylinder block bolts and bolt holes. Inspect the oil pan flange for bends or distortion. Straighten the flange if necessary. Clean the oil screen and pipe in clean solvent. Inspect the condition of the screen and replace if necessary.
  2.  
  3. Apply a 1 / 8 -inch bead of sealer at the parting line of the chain case cover and the rear seal retainer.
  4.  
  5. Install a new O-ring on the oil pick-up tube and install it into the pump body. Tighten the screws to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm), if removed.
  6.  
  7. Install a new oil pan gasket.
  8.  
  9. Install the oil pan and retaining bolts and tighten to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the transaxle support bracket and inspection cover.
  12.  
  13. Reconnect the sway bar.
  14.  
  15. Tighten the oil pan drain plug and install a new oil filter.
  16.  
  17. Lower the vehicle and install the oil dipstick.
  18.  
  19. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  20.  
  21. Refill the engine with the proper amount of clean SAE 5W-30 OR SAE 10W-30 engine oil only. Do not mix the 2 grades of oil.

  23. Start the engine and check for leaks.

3.5L Engine

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine oil dipstick.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Place a drain pan underneath the the vehicle and drain the engine oil. Remove the oil filter.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the sway bar and move to the rear of the vehicle, if necessary.
  10.  
  11. Remove the transaxle support bracket and inspection cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove the oil pan screws and remove the oil pan.
  14.  
  15. Remove the oil pick-up tube, if necessary and the windage tray/oil pan gaskets. The windage tray and oil pan gasket are integral. The silicone rubber gaskets are bonded directly to both sides of the windage tray. This assembly is reusable if it is not damaged upon removal. Discard the old oil pick-up tube O-ring.

Any old sealant must be carefully removed if the gasket is going to be used again.

To install:
  1. Thoroughly clean and dry the oil pan, cylinder block bolts and bolt holes. Inspect the oil pan flange for bends or distortion. Straighten flange if necessary. Clean the oil screen and pipe in clean solvent. Inspect the condition of the screen and replace if necessary.

  3. Apply a 1 / 8 -inch bead of sealer at the parting line of the oil pump body and the rear seal retainer.
  4.  
  5. Install a new O-ring on the oil pick-up tube and install into the pump body. Tighten the screws to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm), if removed.
  6.  
  7. Install the windage tray/oil pan gasket.
  8.  
  9. Install the oil pan and retaining bolts. Tighten screws to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the transaxle support bracket and inspection cover.
  12.  
  13. Reconnect the sway bar.
  14.  
  15. Tighten the oil pan drain plug and install a new oil filter.
  16.  
  17. Lower the vehicle and install the oil dipstick.
  18.  
  19. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  20.  
  21. Refill the engine with the proper amount of clean SAE 5W-30 OR SAE 10W-30 engine oil only. Do not mix the 2 grades of oil.

  23. Start the engine and check for leaks.
