To install:
  1. Position the Hall effect pick-up assembly on the distributor. Route the pick-up wires properly through the hole in the distributor body so they will not be pinched and damaged when the distributor cap is reinstalled. Install the wires to the retaining clip and attach the distributor lead to the engine wiring harness. Make sure the multi-prong connector is securely plugged in and then securely mounted in its retaining clip.
  2.
  3. Secure the Hall effect assembly with the hold-down retaining clips.
  4.
  5. Set the distributor cap onto the distributor housing, making sure that the Hall effect pick-up wires are not being pinched.
  6.
  7. Tighten the distributor cap hold-down screws until snug.
  8.
  9. Install the distributor cover.
  10.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.

2.6L Engine

See Figure 6

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Unscrew the 2 Phillips type retaining screws and remove the distributor cap. Set the cap aside with the spark plug cables still attached.
  4.
  5. Remove the two screws retaining the rotor and pull it off of the distributor shaft. Using a box or socket wrench, remove the governor assembly retaining bolt from the upper end of the distributor shaft.
  6.
  7. Slide the governor assembly upward and off of the shaft. Make sure to keep governor springs either in place or in order for proper installation in the same positions (they are not interchangeable).
  8.
  9. Remove the distributor pick-up wire retaining clamp screw from the retaining clamp on the side of the distributor.
  10.
  11. Remove the pick-up/igniter mounting screws from the clip on the side of the distributor. Unplug the pick-up/wiring connector from the harness. Then, remove both the pick-up coil and igniter, keeping them together. Pull the wiring conduit out of the side of the distributor.
  12.
  13. If you are replacing the breaker assembly or pole piece underneath, remove the two retaining screws and remove them.

  2.
  3. Route the pick-up/igniter wiring through the distributor, then set the pick-up/igniter on the distributor. Install the mounting screws until secure.
  4.
  5. Secure the distributor pick-up/igniter wiring to the wiring retaining clamp with the screw.
  6.
  7. Slide the governor down over the distributor shaft, making sure that the springs are mounted in their original positions. Tighten the governor nut until secure.
  8.
