CAUTION
Before servicing the fuel pump, fuel lines, fuel filter, throttle body, or fuel injectors, release the fuel system pressure.

  1. Loosen the fuel filler cap to release any built-up fuel tank pressure.
  2.
  3. Detach the injector wiring harness connector from the engine or main harness.
  4.
  5. Connect a jumper wire between terminal No. 1 of the injector harness and a good engine ground.
  6.
  7. Connect a second jumper wire between terminal No. 2 of the injector harness and touch the battery positive post for no longer than 5 seconds -this will release the fuel system pressure.
  8.
  9. Remove the jumper wires.
  10.
  11. Continue with the fuel system service.

CAUTION
Before servicing any component of the Flex Fuel system make certain to read the warnings and cautions provided in Routine Maintenance under Oil and Fuel Recommendations. This is paramount since the methanol fuel used in this system can cause severe physical injury.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.

CAUTION
Service the vehicle in a well ventilated area and avoid ignition sources. Never smoke while servicing the vehicle.

  1. Remove the fuel filler cap.
  2.
  3. Remove the protective cap from the fuel pressure test port on the fuel rail.
  4.

Fuel gauge C-4799-A contains hose C-4799-1.

  1. Place the open end of the fuel pressure release hose, tool C-4799-1, into an approved gasoline container. Connect the other end of the hose C-4799-1 to the fuel pressure test port. Fuel pressure will bleed off through the hose into the gasoline container.
