All engine assemblies carry an Engine Identification Number (EIN). The 135 cid (2.2L) EIN is located on the left (engine rear) face of the block directly under the head. The 156 cid (2.6L) identification number is located on the left side of the block (radiator side) between the core plug and the rear edge of the block (models through 1985). In 1986, the 2.6L Mitsubishi built engine was replaced by a 2.5L powerplant developed jointly by Mitsubishi and Chrysler, which is manufactured in the U.S. The 1986-91 2.5L EIN tag is located on the left side of the block between the core plug and the rear face of the block (the "rear'' face is the end of the block attached to the transaxle). For 2.5L engines manufactured from 1992-95, the EIN is located on the left (engine rear) face of the block directly under the head.
On the Eagle Premier equipped with the 2.5L engine, the engine identification tag is located on the right side of the engine between the No. 3 and No. 4 cylinders (above the build date code). The 2.5L engine found in the Premier was manufactured by Jeep and is not the same engine as the 2.5L except Premier engine.
