Rear Window Wiper Motor

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1981-88 Models

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2.  
  3. Remove the blade and arm assembly. Remove the grommet and escutcheon from the motor driveshaft.
  4.  
  5. Open the liftgate.
  6.  
  7. Remove the trim panel from the inside of the liftgate.
  8.  
  9. Remove the motor cover and disengage the wiring connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the four bracket retaining screws and remove the motor.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Position the motor in place and install the retaining screws.
  2.  
  3. Attach the wiring harness connector and install the motor cover.
  4.  
  5. Install the trim panel from inside of the liftgate.
  6.  
  7. Close the liftgate.
  8.  
  9. Install the grommet and escutcheon onto the motor driveshaft. Install the blade and arm assembly.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery terminal.
  12.  

1989-95 Models

For more information regarding the different body classifications included in this information, refer to Routine Maintenance .

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiper arm by lifting it against its spring tension and releasing the latch. Lift the arm off of the motor shaft.
  4.  
  5. Open the liftgate and remove the trim panel. Detach the connector from the motor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the grommet from the liftgate glass.
  8.  
  9. Remove the screws that fasten the bracket to the liftgate and remove the motor assembly from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install a new grommet in the liftgate glass.
  2.  
  3. Position the motor on the liftgate and secure with the screws. Tighten the screws to 60-70 inch lbs. (7-8 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the feed wires to the motor.
  6.  
  7. Install the trim panel.
  8.  
  9. Install and the arm and blade assembly.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the wiper arm nut to 13-14 ft. lbs. (17-19 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable and check the liftgate wiper system for proper operation.
  14.
