REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Have the air conditioning system properly discharged by a qualified professional mechanic using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
- Raise the vehicle and support safely.
- Remove the nuts or bolts that attach the refrigerant line sealing plates to the adjoining components. If the lines are connected with flare nuts, use a back-up wrench when disassembling. Cover the exposed ends of the lines to minimize contamination.
- Remove the support mount.
- Remove the lines and discard the gaskets or O-rings.
- Coat the new gaskets or O-rings with wax-free refrigerant oil and install. Connect the refrigerant lines to the adjoining components and tighten the nuts or bolts.
- Install the support mount.
- Have the air conditioning system evacuated and recharged by a qualified professional mechanic, utilizing the proper equipment.
- Connect the negative battery cable and check the entire climate control system for proper operation and leaks.
Premier and Monaco
Along with the conventional type of refrigerant lines, the Premier and Monaco also utilize a special spring-lock coupling.
The spring-lock coupling is a refrigerant line coupling held together by a garter spring inside a circular cage. When the coupling is connected together, the flared end of the female fitting slips behind the garter spring inside the cage of the male fitting. The garter spring and cage prevent the flared end of the female fitting from pulling out of the cage.TO DISCONNECT COUPLING

- Have the refrigerant discharged from the system by a qualified professional mechanic using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
- Fit the appropriate Spring Lock Coupling Tool (from A/C Tool Kit 6125) or equivalent over the refrigerant line coupling.
- Close the tool and push it into the open side of the cage to expand the garter spring and release the female fitting. The garter spring may not release if the tool is cocked (crooked) while pushing it into the cage opening.
- After the garter spring is expanded, pull the fittings apart within the tool.
- Remove the tool from the disconnected coupling.
- Separate the two ends of the coupling.
- Check to ensure that the garter spring is in the cage of the male fitting. If the garter spring is missing, install a new spring by pushing it into the cage opening. If the garter spring is damaged, remove it from the cage with a small wire hook and install the new spring.
- Clean all dirt or foreign material from both pieces of the coupling.
- Install the new O-rings on the male fitting.
- Lubricate the male fitting and O-rings and the inside of the female fitting with clean refrigerant oil.
- Install the plastic indicator ring into the cage opening if the indicator ring is to be used.
- Fit the female fitting over the male fitting and push them together until the garter spring snaps over the flared end of the female fitting.
If a plastic indicator ring is used, it will snap out of the cage opening when the coupling is connected to indicate engagement.
- If the indicator ring is not used, ensure coupling engagement. This is done by visually checking to be sure the garter spring is over the flared end of the female fitting.
