Wheel Speed Sensors

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Front Sensor

See Figure 1

  1. Raise the vehicle and support safely. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screw from the clip that holds the sensor to the fender shield.
  4.  
  5. Carefully pull the sensor assembly grommet from the fender shield.
  6.  
  7. Unplug the connector from the harness. Remove the retainer clip from the strut damper bracket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the sensor mounting screw.
  10.  
  11. Carefully remove the sensor.

To install:
  1. Coat the sensor with high temperature multi-purpose anti-corrosion compound before installing into the steering knuckle. Install the screw and tighten to 60 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the sensor connector to the harness and install the sensor connector lock.
  4.  
  5. Install the sensor assembly grommet and attach the clip to the fender shield.
  6.  

Proper installation of the wheel speed sensor cables is critical to continued system operation. Be sure the cables are installed in retainers. Failure to install the cables in the retainers may result in contact with moving parts and/or over-extension of the cables, resulting in an open circuit.

  1. Install the wheel.
  2.  

Rear Sensor

  1. Raise the vehicle and support safely. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  2.  
  3. Carefully pull the sensor assembly grommet from the underbody and pull the harness through the hole.
  4.  
  5. Unplug the connector from the harness. Remove the retainer clip from the strut damper bracket.
  6.  
  7. Remove the sensor spool grommet clip retaining screw from the body hose bracket, located in front of the inside of the trailing arm.
  8.  
  9. Remove the outboard sensor assembly retaining nut and sensor mounting screw.
  10.  
  11. Carefully remove the sensor.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Coat the sensor with high temperature multi-purpose anti-corrosion compound before installing into the steering knuckle. Install the screw and tighten to 60 inch lbs. (7 Nm). Install the retaining nut.
  2.  
  3. Install the sensor spool grommet clip retaining screw.
  4.  
  5. Feed the sensor connector wire through the grommet and connect to the harness.
  6.  
  7. Install the sensor assembly grommet.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel.
  10.
