WARNING
Wear clean gloves when handling the cluster dial and gauge assembly. Fingerprints and fingernails will mar the surface.

  1. Grasp the pointer hub and slowly rotate the pointer assembly counterclockwise while gently pulling upward on the hub away from the dial surface. Repeat this procedure approximately 5-15 times, until the pointer assembly lifts off the movement shaft.
  2.
  3. Remove the 2 rear retaining screws and separate the tachometer from the face plate.

To install:
  1. Position the tachometer in the gauge assembly and secure with the 2 rear retaining screws.
  2.
  3. Grasp the pointer by the hub and gently place the bushing onto the movement shaft. The pointer tip should be indicating approximately 6000 rpm.
  4.
  5. Rotate the pointer assembly counterclockwise while gently pushing down on the hub toward the dial surface, a slight resistance should be felt. Clearance between the hub underside and the dial surface should be 0.020-0.060 in. (0.5-1.5mm) before the pointer tip is in line with the zero horizontal graduation.
  6.
  7. Stop when the pointer tip comes in line with the zero horizontal graduation.
  8.
  9. If the pointer is not properly aligned to the horizontal graduation, perform either of the two following steps:
    1. Pointer too high: continue rotating the assembly counterclockwise until the alignment is achieved.
    2.
    3. Pointer too low: rotate the pointer assembly clockwise until the rotational resistance is felt (does not refer to contact with the trip reset shaft). Continue rotating in the direction of resistance to compensate for initial misalignment. Release the hub allowing the pointer assembly to rotate back to its rest position.
    4.
    5. If alignment is not achieved, repeat steps a or b as required.
    6.

  10.
  11. Position the gauge face plate and secure by installing the retaining nuts.
  12.
  13. Install the rear retaining screws.
  14.
  15. Position the black mask onto the instrument cluster.
  16.
  17. Position the clear lens and secure with screws.
  18.
  19. Install the front switch panel as follows:
    1. Guide the switch wires through openings in the cluster.
    2.
    3. Position the switch panel and secure with the screws.
    4.

  20.
  21. Install the instrument cluster as described earlier in this section.
  22.
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
  24.
