REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Except Daytona

See Figures 1 and 2

On Sundance and Shadow, a Torx® screwdriver is required to remove the lock mechanism mounting screws.

  1. Raise the glass until it is up all the way.
  2.  
  3. Remove the trim panel and plastic air shield as previously described.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the outside handle link and key cylinder link from the lock mechanism.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the remote control link, remote latch lock link and, if the car has electric locks, the electric motor link.
  8.  
  9. Remove the three lock attaching screws, then extract the lock through the access hole.

To install:
  1. Reposition the lock inside the door through the access hole. Install the three attaching screws.
  2.  
  3. Reconnect the remote control link, remote latch lock link and, if the car has electric locks, the electric motor link.
  4.  
  5. Reconnect the outside handle link and key cylinder link from the lock mechanism.
  6.  
  7. Install the water shield and trim panel as previously described.
  8.  
  9. Adjust the latch as described in the door adjusting procedure earlier in this section.
  10.  

Daytona

If the car has electric door locks, you will need two short1/4-20 bolts and corresponding nuts.

  1. Roll the window down all the way.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the door panel as described earlier in this section. Peel the water shield away at the top/rear to gain access to the hole located on the inside of the door and near the lock mechanism.
  6.  
  7. Raise the window all the way (if the car has electric windows, reconnect the battery to do this and then disconnect it again).
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the lock cylinder-to-lock link. Disconnect the outside handle-to-lock mechanism link.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the inside handle-to-lock link and the inside remote lock actuator-to-lock link.
  12.  
  13. If the car is equipped with electric door locks, drill out the two rivets that retain the locking motor.
  14.  
  15. Remove the three bolts attaching the lock mechanism to the door. Remove the lock and, if the car has electric locks, the locking motor.
  16.  

To install:
  1. To install the mechanism, first transfer the locking motor to the new mechanism (on cars with electric locks).
  2.  
  3. Position the latch assembly on the door and install the three attaching bolts. Tighten these bolts to 75 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  4.  
  5. If the car has electric locks, attach the locking motor to the door with two short 1 / 4 -20 bolts and corresponding nuts. Tighten the bolts to 90 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the lock cylinder to the latch link.
  8.  
  9. Connect the outside handle to the latch link. Do the same with the inside handle.
  10.  
  11. Connect the inside lock remote switch to the latch link.
  12.  
  13. Lower the window all the way (temporarily connecting the battery on cars equipped with electric windows to do so). Then, install the air shield, water shield and trim panel as described earlier in this section.
  14.  
  15. Reconnect the battery.
  16.
