REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1967 models have no control unit. Instead, they have individual push/pull knobs for each control function.

1968-72 Models
  1. Pull the knobs straight off the control levers.
  2.  
  3. Reach behind the panel and remove the retaining nuts from the face plate studs.
  4.  
  5. Lower the control unit and disconnect the cables and wiring.
  6.  
  7. Connect the control cables and wiring.
  8.  
  9. Replace the face plate and install mounting nuts.
  10.  
  11. Replace the pull knobs.
  12.  
  13. Adjust the cables.
  14.  

1973-80 Models

See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Disconnect the fusible link in the engine compartment.
  2.  
  3. On trucks with air conditioning, remove the left duct.
  4.  
  5. From under the instrument panel, remove the control unit-to-bracket screw.
  6.  
  7. Remove the control unit mounting screws from the front of the panel.
  8.  
  9. Carefully lower the control unit just far enough to disconnect the cables, vacuum hoses and wiring.

To install:
  1. Reconnect the control unit and connect the cables, vacuum hoses and wiring.
  2.  
  3. Replace the control unit mounting screws from the front of the panel.
  4.  
  5. From under the instrument panel, replace the control unit-to-bracket screw.
  6.  
  7. For trucks with air conditioning, install the left duct.
  8.  
  9. Connect the fusible link in the engine compartment.
  10.  
  11. Adjust the cables.
  12.  

1981-88 Models
  1. Remove the face plate.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 control attaching screws.
  4.  
  5. Pull the control rearward.
  6.  
  7. On models with air conditioning, disconnect:
    1. Disconnect the blower switch wiring.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the push-button switch wiring.
    4.  

  8.  
  9. Disconnect the panel light.
  10.  
  11. On models with air conditioning, disconnect the vacuum harness.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the control cable(s).
  14.  
  15. Remove the unit.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of removal. Adjust the cables.
  18.
