Factory Installed Winch

See Figure 1

Number references for the following winch components correspond to numbers in the accompanying figure.

The winch drum and shaft (1 and 2), along with the driveshaft u-joint (3), require lubrication every 30 usage hours or at least twice a year. Multipurpose grease, NLGI grade 2 E.P. should be used. There are 3 fittings in the drum and shaft. There is one fitting to be lubricated on the driveshaft yoke and shaft spline.

The winch shifter fork and lever (4) use engine oil for lubrication, these are also in need of lubrication every 30 usage hours or at least twice a year.

Winches should also have (of coarse) a cable (5) that will be used which needs to be cleaned after every 300 hours of use. Unwind and wipe the cable down with a rag that has been saturated with engine oil. If the cable has not been used, apply engine oil only to the top layer of the cable on the drum (without unwinding) once a year.

The capacity of the worm housing (6) is 3 / 4 pint. Use SAE 90W gear oil when ambient temperatures are above 10°F (-12°C) or SAE 80W gear oil when below 10°F (-12°C). Fill the unit to the bottom of the filler plug hole. Draining and refilling should be done every 300 usage hours or once a year, whichever comes first.
