Blower Motor

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1967 Models

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the radiator.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the blower motor resistor and ground wires from the heater.
  6.

  1. Disconnect and plug the heater core hoses.
  2.  

Make sure you have an ample supply of rags, in case of coolant spills in the truck.

  1. Disconnect the control cables and underdash braces.
  2.  
  3. From the engine compartment, remove the 3 heater mounting nuts or bolts.
  4.  
  5. Lower the heater assembly to the floor of the truck and remove the defroster hoses and air intake duct.
  6.  
  7. Remove the heater from the truck.
  8.  
  9. Remove the retaining nuts and lift the blower motor out of the housing.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  12.  

1968-72 Models Without Air Conditioning
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the radiator.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the blower motor resistor and ground wires from the heater.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect and plug the heater core hoses.
  8.

  7. Remove the heater from the truck.
  8.  
  9. Remove the retaining screws and lift the blower motor from the heater case.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.

1968-72 Models With Air Conditioning
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the glove box.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the wiring at the blower resistor.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the fresh air door actuator.
  8.  
  9. Remove the support bracket attached to the face of the blower motor housing and the back of the instrument panel.
  10.  
  11. Separate the blower motor housing from the evaporator housing by removing the 6 sheet metal screws.
  12.  
  13. Remove the windshield wiper arms.
  14.  
  15. Remove the air inlet grille from in front of the windshield.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 2 support bracket bolts and lower the blower motor and housing out from under the instrument panel.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the air tube and ground wire.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 3 screws and remove the blower motor from the housing.
  22.  

To install:
  1. Install the blower motor in the housing. Install the 3 screws.
  2.  
  3. Connect the air tube and ground wire.
  4.  
  5. Position the blower motor and housing under the instrument panel. Install the 2 support bracket bolts.
  6.  
  7. Install the air inlet grille.
  8.  
  9. Install the windshield wiper arms.
  10.  
  11. Attach the blower motor housing to the evaporator housing by installing the 6 sheet metal screws.
  12.  
  13. Install the support bracket attached to the face of the blower motor housing and the back of the instrument panel.
  14.  
  15. Connect the vacuum hoses to the fresh air door actuator.
  16.  
  17. Connect the wiring at the blower resistor.
  18.  
  19. Install the glove box.
  20.  
  21. Connect the battery ground cable.
  22.  

1973-88 Models

See Figures 2, 3 and 4

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the wiring.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the ground wire and cooling tube from the blower motor in the engine compartment.
  6.  
  7. Remove the screws and lift out the motor.
  8.

  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the heater hoses at the core tubes. Plug the core tubes.
  4.  

Make sure you have an ample supply of rags, in case of coolant spills in the truck.

  1. Disconnect the control cables.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the defroster ducts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bracket from the right side of the instrument panel and pull the panel rearward.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 7 mounting nuts from the engine side of the firewall, and one from the inside at the right kick panel.
  8.  
  9. Pull the heater assembly out.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to replace the sealing material.
  12.  
  13. Connect the battery ground cable, then refill the cooling system.
  14.
