Turn Signal Switch

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1967 Models
  1. Remove the steering wheel.
  2.  
  3. Unscrew the turn signal lever.
  4.  
  5. Remove the column tube upper spring and spacer.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the turn signal wires at the lower connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 switch hold-down screws, then pull the switch and wiring from the column.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Push the wiring of the switch into the column opening, then tighten the two screws to hold down the switch.
  2.  
  3. Attach the turn signal wires to the lower connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the column tube upper spring and spacer.
  6.  
  7. Bolt down the turn signal lever.
  8.  
  9. Install the steering wheel.
  10.  

1968-88 Models
STANDARD COLUMNS

See Figure 1

  1. Remove the steering wheel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the turn signal lever retaining screw and remove the lever.
  4.  
  5. Detach the turn signal switch wiring at the lower connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wiring cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the snapring from the upper end of the shaft.
  10.  
  11. Remove the screws retaining the turn signal switch and upper bearing.
  12.  
  13. Lift out the turn signal switch and wiring.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Push the wiring of the switch into the column opening. Replace the snapring, then tighten the screws that retain the switch and upper bearing.
  2.  
  3. Attach the turn signal wires to the connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the wiring cover for the upper end of the shaft.
  6.  
  7. Bolt down the turn signal lever.
  8.  
  9. Install the steering wheel.
  10.  

TILT COLUMNS

See Figures 2, 3 and 4

  1. Remove the steering wheel.
  2.  
  3. Depress the lock plate with tool C-4156, or equivalent, just enough to remove the retaining ring, then pry the retaining ring out of the groove.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lock plate and upper bearing spring.
  6.  
  7. Place the turn signal switch in the right turn position.
  8.  
  9. Remove the screw which attaches the link between the turn signal switch and wiper/washer switch pivot.
  10.  
  11. Remove the screw which attaches the hazard switch knob.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 3 screws securing the turn signal switch.
  14.  
  15. Gently pull the switch and wiring from the column.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  18.
