Except 8.0L and 1994-96 Diesel Engines
  1. Disconnect the vacuum hose at the servo.
  2.  
  3. Unplug the electrical connector at the servo.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two nuts from the servo mounting bracket.
  6.  
  7. Pull the speed control cable away from the servo to expose the retaining clip. Remove the clip.
  8.  
  9. Pull the servo away from the mounting bracket.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Block the throttle to full open (gas engines), pivot the bellcrank full rearward (diesel engine), and align the hole in the cable sleeve with the hole in the servo pin. Install the retaining clip.
  2.  
  3. Insert the servo studs through holes in the cable sleeve.
  4.  
  5. 1989-93 models: Install new push nuts on the servo studs, then insert the servo studs through the holes in the mounting bracket. Only one (1) stud mounts the reservoir.
  6.  
  7. Install the 2 attaching nuts and tighten to 50 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the vacuum hose to the servo.
  10.  
  11. Plug in the electrical connector.
  12.  

8.0L and 1994-96 Diesel Engines

See Figure 2

  1. Disconnect both negative, then both positive battery cables.
  2.  
  3. Remove the battery hold-down, and if equipped, the battery heat shield(s).
  4.  
  5. Remove the battery from the vehicle.
  6.

  1. Remove the battery tray mounting hardware, then lift the tray up far enough for access to the speed control servo electrical connector.
  2.  
  3. Unplug the electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Pull the speed control cable away to expose the hairpin clip.
  6.  
  7. Remove the clip, then remove the servo.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Block the throttle to full open and align the hole in the cable sleeve with the hole in the servo pin. Install the retaining clip.
  2.  
  3. Insert the servo studs through holes in the cable sleeve.
  4.  
  5. Install the two attaching nuts and tighten to 50 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the vacuum hose to the servo.
  8.  
  9. Plug in the electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Install the battery tray, battery, and if equipped, the heat shield. Tighten the tray mounting hardware to 140 inch lbs. (16 Nm). Tighten the battery hold-down clamp bolt to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
