Diagnosis and Testing

Do not attempt to pull a spark plug wire off to test against an engine ground. Not only could expensive components be destroyed, but the extremely high voltage from the coil pack could inflict a very powerful shock causing injury or death.

Conventional tests for spark are not recommended for the distributorless ignition system because of the fundamentally different means by which the coil packs are energized. It's not just a simple matter of pulling off a wire from a distributor and cranking the engine. If you wish to check the coils, please refer to the ignition coil pack tests for more information. Other relevant information on the various engine sensors may also be found in this section. Please refer to the index for assistance.
