Freeze Plugs

Freeze plugs are removed by using a blunt tool such as a drift and a hammer.

  1. Strike the bottom edge of the plug to break it loose and tilt it out enough to grab the end with a pair of pliers and remove the plug.
  2.  
  3. Clean the inside of the plug hole, then coat the replacement plug with sealant.
  4.  
  5. Drive the new plug in until the edges are flush with the block. Do not overdrive the plug or coolant flow restriction can result.
