REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

This procedure pertains to the diesel engine only.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the air crossover hose.
  4.

  1. Disconnect the intake hose and exhaust pipe.
  2.  
  3. Remove the oil drain tube bolts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil supply line from the turbocharger.
  6.  
  7. Remove the turbocharger mounting nuts and remove the turbocharger.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Inspect the mounting surface for cracks and damage.
  2.  
  3. Install a new gasket and apply anti-seize compound to the mounting studs.
  4.  
  5. Install the turbocharger and tighten the mounting nuts to 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the air crossover hose.
  8.  
  9. Install a new gasket and install the oil drain tube. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  10.  
  11. New turbochargers must be pre-lubricated with fresh engine oil before operation. To do so, pour about 2 or 3 oz. (65-100 ml) of oil into the supply fitting and rotate the turbine wheel to circulate the oil.
  12.  
  13. Install the oil supply line to the turbocharger.
  14.  
  15. Connect the intake and exhaust piping.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable and check for exhaust leaks.
