Fuel Injector

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  4.  
  5. Perform the fuel system pressure release.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fuel rail assembly.
  8.

  1. Remove the clip(s) retaining the injector(s) to the fuel rail.
  2.  
  3. Remove the injector(s) from the fuel rail.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Apply a small amount of engine oil to each injector O-ring.
  2.  
  3. Install the injector(s) and clip(s).
  4.  
  5. Install the fuel rail assembly.
  6.  
  7. Install the air cleaner.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable, then check for leaks.
  10.  

TESTING

A complete test of the fuel injectors and related circuitry is only possible using a DRBII or equivalent scan tool, and the appropriate Powertrain Diagnostics Procedures manual. This test is for the injector only.

Fig. Fig. 2: Unplug the fuel injector connector, then place an ohmmeter across the terminals to measure resistance

  1. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the fuel injector.
  2.  
  3. Place an ohmmeter across the injector terminals. The resistance reading should be approximately 13.3-15.7 ohms at 68°F (20°C).
  4.

  1. Replace the injector if it fails to meet specification.
