Service Reminder Indicator (SRI) Lamp

See Figures 1 and 2

The Service Reminder Indicator (SRI) lamp is used with 5.9L V8 heavy duty and 8.0L gas powered engines only. It is not used with diesel engines. The lamp is found on the instrument panel and reads "MAINT REQ'D.''

The SRI system is a part of the engine controller computer. It records vehicle mileage and stores it in memory. The engine controller checks for certain mileage intervals. When they are reached, the SRI lamp is illuminated on the instrument panel.

When the vehicle's SRI lamp comes on, check the vehicle's odometer and check the maintenance interval charts in this repair guide.

If you only reset the light and fail to replace the necessary parts or perform required maintenance, you may be acting in violation of federal law. Only after the required work is performed should the light be reset.

The SRI lamp may only be reset with the use of a DRBII scan tool, or equivalent. If this is not available, you will have to take the vehicle to a properly equipped shop for them to reset the lamp.

  1. Connect the DRBII scan tool, or equivalent to the data link connector in the engine compartment.
  3. Follow the manufacturer's directions for resetting the SRI lamp.
