Relieving Fuel System Pressure

EXCEPT 1992-95 2.5L ENGINES



  1. Loosen the gas cap to release tank pressure.
  2.  
  3. Remove the injector wiring harness connector from the engine harness.
  4.  
  5. Connect a jumper wire between ground terminal No. 1 of the injector harness and the engine ground.
  6.  
  7. Connect a jumper wire to the second terminal and touch the battery positive post for no longer than five seconds. This releases system pressure.
  8.  
  9. Remove the jumper wire and continue fuel system service.
  10.  

1992-95 2.5L ENGINES



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuel tank filler cap to release any fuel tank pressure.
  4.  
  5. Unscrew the plastic cap from the pressure test port on the fuel rail.
  6.  
  7. Obtain a fuel pressure gauge/hose from a fuel pressure gauge tool set No. 5069, or equivalent. Remove the gauge, then place the gauge end of the hose into a suitable gasoline container.
  8.  
  9. Place a shop towel under the test port.
  10.  
  11. Screw the other end of the hose onto the fuel pressure port to relieve the pressure.
  12.  
  13. When the pressure has been relieved, remove the hose and cap the port.
