Steering Knuckle

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Dakota, Durango 2WD
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the caliper, rotor, shield and ABS speed sensor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tie rod from the steering knuckle arm.
  8.  
  9. Remove the hub/bearing.
  10.  
  11. Remove the shock absorber.
  12.  
  13. Compress the coil spring.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lower ball joint nut and separate the joint.
  16.  
  17. Remove the upper ball joint nut and separate the ball joint.
  18.  
  19. Remove the steering knuckle.
  20.  
  21. Installation is the reverse of removal. Check the specifications charts for proper torque of mounting hardware.

Dakota, Durango 4WD
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the caliper, rotor, shield and ABS speed sensor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front driveshaft.
  8.  
  9. Remove the tie rod end cotter pin and nut. Separate the tie rod from the knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Support the lower suspension arm and raise the jack to unload the rebound bumper.
  12.  
  13. Remove the upper ball joint cotter pin and nut. Separate the ball joint.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lower ball joint cotter pin and nut. Separate the ball joint.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of removal. Check the specifications charts for proper torque of mounting hardware.

Ram With Independent Front Suspension
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake caliper and rotor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cotter pin and nut from the tie rod. Disconnect the tie rod from the steering knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cotter pins and nuts from the upper and lower ball joints. Separate the upper and lower ball joints.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Check the specifications charts for proper torque of mounting hardware.

Ram With Link/Coil Front Suspension
  1. Remove the hub bearing and axle shaft.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tie rod or drag link end from the steering knuckle arm.
  4.  
  5. Remove the ABS sensor wire and bracket from the knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cotter pin from the upper ball stud nut. Remove the upper and lower ball stud nuts.
  8.  
  9. Strike the steering knuckle with a brass hammer to loosen.
  10.  
  11. Remove the knuckle from the axle tube yokes.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal. Check the specifications charts for proper torque of mounting hardware.
