NOTE
A wide variety of lighting components have been and are being used on this line of trucks and of course a wide range of bulbs. Compare those in your truck against the illustrations.

Front Turn Signal and Parking Lights
  1. On some models, the bulb may be accessible from inside the engine compartment. On others, the lamp module must be removed after taking off the securing screw. On Dakota and Durango models, the module is secured by a screw and incorporates the side marker bulb as well.
  2.  
  3. After the bulb is accessed, turn it CCW 1 / 4 turn and remove it and the connector from the module.
  4.  
  5. Pull the bulb out of the connector.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  8.  
  9. Before installing the light bulb into the metal contacts, ensure that all electrical conducting surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  10.  
  11. Clean the bulb glass surfaces.
  12.  
  13. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.
  14.  
  15. Install the module, noting that on some models it is located with slots and tabs which must be properly aligned.
  16.  
  17. Install the securing screw.

Taillight Module

Rear modules incorporate taillight, brake, turn signal and back-up lights. Configuration varies depending on model and year.

  1. Open the tailgate.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screw that secures the lamp module.
  4.  
  5. Pull the module away from the truck body.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bulb holder from the module by twisting 1 / 4 turn CCW and pulling out.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bulb from the connector.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  12.  
  13. Before installing the light bulb into the metal contacts, ensure that all electrical conducting surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  14.  
  15. Clean the bulb glass surfaces.
  16.  
  17. Check the condition of the retaining studs before refitting the module.
  18.  
  19. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.

Side Marker Light

  1. On Dakota and Durango, the front side marker is incorporated into the turn signal/parking light module. Refer to that section, if necessary. The module is secured by a single screw
  2.  
  3. Some side marker lights are fitted to the fenders. On this version, pry off the bulb holder assembly using a flat-bladed screwdriver at the clip provided.
  4.  
  5. Disengage the bulb and socket assembly from the lens housing.
  6.  
  7. Gently grasp the light bulb and pull it straight out of the socket.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Before installing the light bulb into the socket, ensure that all electrical contact surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  2.  
  3. Line up the base of the light bulb with the socket, then insert the light bulb into the socket until it is fully seated.
  4.  
  5. Clean the glass surface to remove fingerprints or foreign matter.
  6.  
  7. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it too is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.
  8.  
  9. Install the socket and bulb assembly into the lens housing.
  10.  

Dome Light
  1. Using a small prytool, carefully remove the cover lens from the lamp assembly. Pry slots are provided.
  2.  
  3. Remove the bulb by pulling it straight out.
  4.  

To install:

  1. Before installing the light bulb into the metal contacts, ensure that all electrical conducting surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  2.  
  3. Push the bulb into place. Clean the glass surface.
  4.  
  5. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.
  6.  
  7. Install the cover lens until its retaining tabs are properly engaged.
  8.

Reading Lamp Bulb
  1. Using a small pry tool, remove the reading lamp bulb lens. A pry slot is provided.
  2.  
  3. Pry out the in-line bulb.
  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  6.  
  7. Clean the bulb glass surfaces.
  8.  
  9. Before installing the light bulb into the metal contacts, ensure that all electrical conducting surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  10.  
  11. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.

  13. Install the cover lens until its retaining tabs are properly engaged.

Central High-Mounted Stop Lamp

This assembly incorporates two brake light bulbs in the center with cargo area bulbs on each end.

  1. Remove the two screws securing the brake light lens assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the bulb holder from the assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bulb by pushing in and turning CCW.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  8.  
  9. Clean the bulb glass surfaces.
  10.  
  11. Before installing the light bulb into the metal contacts, ensure that all electrical conducting surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  12.  
  13. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.

Cab Mounted Roof Marker Lights
  1. For each lens: remove the screws holding the clearance lamp to the roof panel.
  2.  
  3. Rotate the socket about 1 / 4 turn CCW and remove the lamp from the socket.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  
  3. Clean the bulb glass surfaces.
  4.  
  5. Before installing the light bulb into the metal contacts, ensure that all electrical conducting surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  6.  
  7. Install the lamp in the socket and rotate CW 1 / 4 of a turn.
  8.  
  9. Position the lamp on the roof.
  10.  
  11. Install the screws, tightening each to 13 inch lbs. (1 Nm).
  12.  
  13. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.
  14.  

License Plate Lights
  1. On models with dual lights (one on each side of the plate), remove the cap over the bulb.
  2.  
  3. On models with a single light over the plate, remove the two screws securing the lens.
  4.  
  5. Pull the wiring harness and connector out for access to the bulb.
  6.  
  7. Slip a piece of rubber tubing over the bulb and pull it straight out.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Clean the bulb glass surfaces.
  2.  
  3. Before installing the light bulb into the metal contacts, ensure that all electrical conducting surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  4.  
  5. Use the tubing to install a new bulb.
  6.  
  7. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.
  8.  
  9. Install the cap, noting that it cannot be fitted wrong way up.
  10.

Underhood Lamp

Different types are fitted depending on model and year. They range from a simple bulb in a socket to a more elaborate set-up. Refer to illustrations for construction details.

  1. Early models have a simple, uncovered bulb: twist it CCW to remove.
  2.  
  3. Later models have a lens. Remove the lens, if fitted, by prying it off at the slot provided.
  4.  
  5. On this type, press on the terminal to remove the bulb.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  
  3. Clean the bulb glass surfaces.
  4.  
  5. Before installing the light bulb into the metal contacts, ensure that all electrical conducting surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  6.  
  7. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.

Liftgate Lamp
  1. Open the liftgate.
  2.  
  3. Using a small screwdriver, pry the lens off.
  4.  
  5. Pull out the bulb.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  
  3. Clean the bulb glass surfaces.
  4.  
  5. Before installing the light bulb into the metal contacts, ensure that all electrical conducting surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  6.  
  7. Push the bulb home.
  8.  
  9. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.
