REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



RV-2 Compressor

  1. Discharge the refrigerant system. See ROUTINE MAINTENANCE for the proper procedure.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the two refrigerant lines from the compressor. Cap the openings immediately!
  4.  
  5. Remove tension from the drive belt. Remove the belt.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the clutch wire at the connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the compressor-to-bracket bolts. It may be necessary to loosen the bracket-to-engine bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the compressor.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal. Use new O-rings coated with clean refrigerant oil at all fittings. New, replacement compressors contain 10 oz. of refrigerant oil. Prior to installation, pour off 4 oz. of oil. This will maintain the oil charge in the system. Evacuate, charge and leak test the system.

WARNING
When replacing the compressor, the compressor crankshaft should be rotated several times by hand to clear oil accumulation from the compressor head before the clutch is energized, to avoid damaging the compressor reed valves.C-171 Compressor
