To insure proper adjustment, it is suggested that new linkage grommets be installed.

  1. Place the gearshift lever in Park position.
  2.  
  3. Move the shift control lever on the transmission all the way to the rear (in the Park detent).
  4.  
  5. Set the adjustable rod to the proper length and install it with no load in either direction. Tighten the swivel bolt.
  6.  
  7. The shift linkage must be free of binding and be positive in all positions. Make sure that the engine can start only when the gearshift lever is in the Park or Neutral position. Be sure that the gearshift lever will not jump into an unwanted gear.
